About the Role

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is seeking a Lecturer in Nursing specialising in Mental Health, Teaching Specialist (Academic), or (Clinical Practitioner).

This Teaching Specialist position, with its primary focus on teaching and teaching-related activities, has an important role to play in the University's achievement of its strategic plan, Making a Difference: The 2025 Agenda.

This position involves teaching and teaching-related duties including the creation, delivery, and continuous quality improvement of university-level education. It includes (but is not limited to): direct teaching informed by approaches that enhance the student experience with a focus on mental health nursing topics, across all levels and modes; curriculum design and review; delivery innovation; advancements in education technologies; and making an independent contribution to maintaining internal and external compliance and accreditation of courses.

The role will also provide a level of support in academic counselling and professional advice to students regarding their studies, professional development, and career opportunities.

These roles also require:
  • Maintenance of professional knowledge related to teaching within your discipline through scholarship and professional development.
  • Engagement in relevant external professional domains such as conferences and workshops.
  • A current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing (Academic)
  • Excellence in teaching performance at a tertiary level.
  • Experience in planning and evaluation of topics and undertaking the role of Topic Coordinator.
  • Evidence of reflective practice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, students, and industry.

Completion of a PhD or EdD (or equivalent qualification) is required.


Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing (Clinical/Practitioner)
  • Excellence in teaching performance at a tertiary level.
  • Experience in planning and evaluation of topics and undertaking the role of Topic Coordinator.
  • Relevant and contemporary clinical experience in a relevant field and ability to maintain concurrently within or outside of this position.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, students, and industry.
  • Understanding of the nexus between teaching and learning, research, scholarship and practice.

This role also requires a Doctorate in a relevant field or equivalent clinical experience and professional standing in Nursing.
