The Aboriginal Medical Service Redfern (AMS) was established in 1971 and was the first Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) in Australia. We are a multi-disciplinary health care facility with Medical, Chronic Care, Drug & Alcohol, Mental Health, Dental and Public Health units. We work together to provide a high level of patient care whilst servicing our local community needs.

We are seeking a Child and Family Registered Nurse to provide maternal and child health services within an Aboriginal Community Controlled health care setting.  The position focuses on the prevention, early detection and management of health problems for Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander maternal women,  newborns, their children and families.

 To be successful in this role will require to

Qualifications / Education and Training

• Holds current general & Midwifery Nursing registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA); with postgraduate Maternal Health and Child Health qualifications.

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an acute care setting or medical practice environment.
• A demonstrated ability to work in the community and to promote the development of the Maternal and Child Health Service Model.
• Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
• Strong computer skills including Internet and email, and familiarity with health information.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the National Competency Standards for Registered Midwives.
• Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health service.
