We currently have 4x Permanent vacancies available for Aboriginal Engagement Officers based in Perth, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Karratha.

About the role

These positions sit within the Aboriginal Empowerment Unit (AEU) which supports the department to contribute towards the successful achievement of the State Government's Aboriginal Empowerment Strategy 2021-2029. The Unit ensures policies, practices and administration of resource development are appropriate and respectful of Aboriginal people, contributes to establish formal pathways for Aboriginal people to contribute to the way that resource development is regulated and works to increase the department's workforce identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

The AEU will also provide an extensive development program aimed to expand your skills and experience to benefit your work in this position and your future career.

The Aboriginal Engagement Officer position plays an important role linking the regional team and all other parts of the Department. In this role you will ensure effective and efficient high-quality service is provided to regional customers and industry on behalf of the Aboriginal Engagement and Procurement team.

Your key responsibilities will include assisting in the coordination and planning of divisional events and engagements, whilst establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You will also monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of engagement strategies and plans for continual improvement.

The department recognises Aboriginality is an occupational requirement for this position and Pursuant to Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants will be considered for this role.

What we are looking for?

To be shortlisted for interview, you are required to submit the following two application documents;

1. A maximum two (2) page covering letter using examples to address the requirements outlined below,

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects and concurrent priorities, as well as working independently and applying continuous improvement principles in engagement strategies.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain networks and engage key stakeholders.

2. A detailed resume outlining your work history, education and professional development including the names of two (2) referees.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next twelve (12) months.
