Where you'll be working 
The Systems Monitoring & Insights (SMI) team is responsible for the collection and analysis of data and information that informs the evaluation of key strategic bodies of work including but not limited to - NSW Integrated Care Strategy; Collaborative Commissioning, Urgent Care Services, Social Impact Investment Strategy, primary care data linkage and health system demand projections in response to Covid-19 pandemic.

What you'll be doing 
The Senior Biostatistician positions are responsible for high quality, advanced analysis and reporting of health system data, including linked health-related data. The outputs of these analyses will measure the performance of the health system in relation to a number of specific health service innovations, to support state-wide health service planning and development.

Selection Criteria 

  1. Relevant postgraduate level qualification or equivalent in biostatistics and relevant biostatistical experience and training.
  2. Extensive knowledge of health related data collections and systems, the strengths and weaknesses of these databases and a good understanding of the NSW and Australian Health Systems.
  3. Extensive experience conducting and interpreting statistical analyses of population-based health administrative other health related data, including linked datasets, using a range of analytic tools and methodologies, including temporal and sub-group adjusted and/or linked data analyses, in order to describe and compare the performance of health systems.
  4. Extensive experience in software program development using statistical analysis software R. Familiarity in SAS and/or SQL is advantageous.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of epidemiological and biostatistical concepts, and the application of these for producing policy relevant information for the health system.
  6. High level written, verbal communication, interpersonal and consultation skills, both inter- and intra-agency. This includes demonstrated experience in preparing written reports and scientific papers which present statistical analyses in a manner suitable for publication.

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy 
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
