Centacare FNQ provides services to Cairns and the Far North Queensland region, particularly to people who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or marginalised within our community.

Catholic Early Learning and Care (CELC)  services cater for children aged from 6 weeks to 13 years and include Early Learning, Kindergarten and Outside School Hours Care (Before School, After School and Vacation Care). 

Centacare FNQ’s Shared Services has combined to offer services to both of our organisations.

Join us as a People & Culture Co-ordinator on a permanent full-time basis and be valued for who you are and all that you bring. Based at head office in beautiful sunny Cairns, the role provides the full Human Resources generalist function to both Centacare FNQ and Catholic Early Learning & Care, also overseeing our Volunteer program.

What your role will lead on a day to day basis

Provide HR generalist services and advice across the employee life cycle from onboarding to offboarding including:

  • Consulting with respective managers on workforce planning to determine staffing needs, levels and contracts across sites
  • Coordinating recruitment by creating job advertisements and communicating with potential candidates via phone screens, arranging and participating in selection panel interviews, conducting pre-employment checks and referee checks
  • Confirming selection decisions and coordinating employee contracts and onboarding activities
  • Confirming and advising on employee entitlements/conditions of service according to the relevant award
  • Coordinating People & Culture compliance training and accurate record keeping to meet legislative requirements
  • Coordinating and performing probation and exit interviews with timely summary reports to and CNC and CELC management.
  • Provide timely support to managers on performance related issues across sites for staff and contractors to promote a safe, equitable and inclusive workplace environment
  • Assisting Managers to conduct effective Annual Performance Reviews and Development Action Plans
  • Assisting with performance improvement plans and/or discussions of underperformance or behaviours not in line with organisational values or Code of Conduct
  • In conjunction with People & Culture Manager ensure existing People & Culture policies and procedures are streamlined and updated as necessary (with organisational management)
  • Researching and organising suitable training programs for staff

ELMO - HRIS 

  • Identify opportunities for the improvement of People & Culture systems and processes including the automation of key workflows related to the employee lifecycle
  • Lead and support the phased implementation of software modules (ELMO) commencing with automating compliance training across the organisation Administration – People & Culture Records, Data Analysis and Reporting
  • Ensure timely collection and distribution of People & Culture trend data analysis and reports to management including but not limited to: compliance checks; performance appraisals; compliance training; staff turnover, staff leave, absenteeism
  • Provide input into development of documents and procedures relevant to the position and service as required.

Safety (WHS)

  • Support the organisation’s Safety (WHS) function including: injury management and return-to-work
  • Coordinating test and tag & other regulatory testing across sites and services
  • Updating the risk management register
  • Leading the Safety (WHS) Committee and Site Inspections
  • Advise Management and workgroups to ensure compliance to current legislation, regulations and codes of practice are maintained
  • Implement comprehensive systems and processes, develop standards and provide advice to the organisation and/or specific business units regarding Safety (WHS)
  • Assist with the development of Safety (WHS) resources and education materials to support and inform senior leaders, managers and supervisors on how to effectively discharge their duties under current Work Health & Safety legislation.

Service Delivery

  • Establishing appropriate service delivery agreements with services in conjunction with People & Culture Manager

Evaluation and Continuous Improvement

  • Actively participate in and prepare for regular employee development meetings.
  • Participate in and contribute to team meetings, training and planning activities, service evaluation and quality assurance activities.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Relevant degree with relevant experience or less formal qualifications attained through previous appointments, service and/or study an equivalent level of experience and expertise to undertake the range of activities required.
  • Cert 4 in WHS or higher
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with well-developed, organisational and time management skills.
  • A strong team player with a collaborative, consultative and pro-active approach to problem solving.
  • A valid Positive Notice Blue Card and Yellow Card Exemption – No Card, No Start laws apply.
  • Have and maintain an open unrestricted Driver’s Licence and the ability to drive an automatic vehicle.
  • Have and maintain a satisfactory National Police Certificate.
