An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner will provide a range of clinical primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and communities including delivering specific health care programs, assessing, and treating clients, providing advice and support in order to contribute to better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This role also provides cultural liaison and brokerage between the service, clients, and the wider community.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • High level understanding and knowledge of and sensitivity to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, including historical and current determinants for poor health and community protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and manage workload, and to work independently to meet deadlines
  • Sound primary clinical skills in managing health care interventions through assessment, referral, treatment, and monitoring

Requirements for the role:

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
  • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Islander Primate Health Care Practice
  • Registration with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to commencement of duties.
