We are looking for a Settlement Case Worker to deliver case management services within our Humanitarian Settlement program (HSP)

Fixed term position until June 2024

Full time, 38 hours per week

Monday to Friday

9.00am to 5.00pm 

SCHADS Level 3/4 (depending on skills/experience)

The role is based in Werribee

with an expectation to work at other sites/locations within the region to fulfill operational requirements

About the role ... 

We have an exciting position for a Settlement worker to primarily work within our Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP).  The Settlement Worker will provide initial support to Refugee/Humanitarian arrivals; equipping newly arrived adults, families, and young people, to address their identified settlement needs in order to settle, and improve social participation, economic well-being, independence, personal well-being and community connectedness more broadly.

The position is responsible for the provision of high-quality case management (Low and Medium complexity casework) and community development initiatives. The Settlement worker operates within MiCare’s Integrated Family/Client Service.  Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Provide high quality needs-based case-management support to eligible clients addressing the nine priority areas identified in the National Settlement Framework. The support includes outreach, advocacy, and assistance to eligible clients with multiple needs.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop, implement, and review case plan with identified key actions, responsibilities, and timeframes.
  • Facilitate referrals to support eligible clients’ journey towards improving social participation, economic well-being, independence, personal well-being, and community connectedness. With a particular focus on the 3 Es (employment readiness, engagement with education, and training and activities that facilitate the acquisition of English language).
  • Work in consultation, and with support of Team Leader to respond to clients who present in immediate crisis, and/or have multiple or complex needs.  
  • Develop and maintain respectful relationships with key referral agencies, community groups and leaders and potential project partners in the region to improve service coordination and referral, avoid duplication and improve local collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • Appropriate Tertiary diploma/certificate qualification in Community Services/Case Management or other relevant qualifications, and/or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Skills

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the needs of newly arrived migrant and refugee communities, especially those from new and emerging communities
  • Knowledge of Case Management Frameworks using a Strengths BasedApproach, and Community Capacity buildingapproaches within the Settlement context.
  • Demonstrated experience in Casework/Case Management, conducting needs assessments, developing, and reviewing case plans, providing information, referral, and advice.
  • Strong familiarity of systemic and structural barriers that new and emerging communities can face in Australia and possible approaches for overcoming these, with regards to the areas of economic, social, and civic participation.

A police check with no disclosable outcome, current medicare evidence of influenza vaccination and full COVID-19 vaccination is required by MiCare for this position.

  • The ability to work in a culturally sensitive and trauma informed manner within an ethno-specific environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in Casework/Case Management, conducting needs assessments, developing, and reviewing case plans, providing information, referral, and advice.
  • Strong administration and time management skills. Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously and with others in a participative and supportive manner
