Are you ready to make a difference and lead positive change? Join us at Treasury as Director of our new Housing Supply Unit, which is being established to drive housing supply and affordability policy in Western Australia.

The Western Australian Department of Treasury is establishing a new Directorate, the Housing Supply Unit (HSU), that will deliver a whole of government policy focus to the Western Australian housing market.

The HSU will be responsible for overseeing the development of market-wide housing policy, including measures to boost housing supply, choice and affordability, residential construction, rental market conditions and housing to support the State’s workforce needs (especially in the regions). The team will also lead negotiations with the Commonwealth on housing issues.

To drive this dynamic and challenging new role, we are looking for a creative and innovative leader who is solutions-focussed, and can develop and execute strategies and policies to deliver positive outcomes for the people of Western Australia by driving new measures to boost housing supply and affordability.

The role requires you to:

  • Provide proactive leadership and clear direction to the Housing Supply team.
  • Lead the development of market-wide housing policy including the execution of strategies and solutions, and provide expert advice to Treasury Executive, Ministers and other key stakeholders.
  • Work in partnership with key stakeholder groups, including other public sector agencies, government trading enterprises, the residential construction and building industry, and the property development sector to identify and deliver policy solutions to address barriers to housing supply.

You will be working in a high performing organisation with a dynamic work environment, where you can expect to find:

  • exciting, challenging, and meaningful work that will make a difference to outcomes for people in Western Australia, with current projects including economic diversification, climate resilience and decarbonisation, and improving outcomes for Aboriginal people;
  • committed, experienced and collaborative work colleagues and a supportive peer network;
  • strong support, mentorship, and career development from senior leaders, including a commitment to support individual professional development;
  • an accessible and contemporary office building in the central business district, close to public transport, shops and cafes and with modern end of trip facilities; and
  • the opportunity to build your career and professional networks in a central policy agency that operates at the centre of Government decision-making.

This role is part of the Senior Executive Service (SES) with the successful applicant being appointed for a fixed term of five years. We also support flexible working arrangements.

To be considered, you will need to have proven leadership experience in building and leading a dynamic team that is able to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders and deliver high level strategic and practical policy advice to government. You will also require:

  • Extensive experience in policy making and have strong problem-solving skills to address complex challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to build relationships and negotiate and influence key stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to change, manage competing and tight deadlines and deliver on high leverage areas.
  • Abilty to meet the expected behaviours outlined in the Public Sector Commission’s Leadership Expectations.

If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply. Your leadership can change the game in delivering improved outcomes for the people of Western Australia.
