Compliance Support Officer

Department of Primary Industries & Regions SA

We have an opportunity for a Compliance Support Officer to be part of our Fisheries and Aquaculture Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

This position can be based at our regional fisheries offices or within Adelaide (West Beach SA 5046).

PIRSA has established an Aboriginal Fisheries Officer Career Pathway Program. This program provides a structured and supported career pathway to recruit Aboriginal men and women as Compliance Support Officers, and an opportunity for their development to become authorised Fisheries Officers. The program aims to increase Aboriginal, and regional employment, and assist with bridging the knowledge gap between government and Aboriginal nations on traditional and customary fishing practices and managing Sea Country.

The Compliance Support Officer (CSO) is part of the Operations Group within PIRSA Fisheries and Aquaculture. The CSO reports to the Regional Manager, but on a daily basis works under the general direction of an assigned Senior Fisheries Officer (SFO). The CSO assists with and contributes to the effective management of the relevant region's fisheries through directed compliance activities, including the application of legislation, policies and procedures and undertaking community education and engagement. The CSO will play a key role in connecting to and assisting Sea Nations Aboriginal communities to manage their fisheries activities and resources in a sustainable manner.
