The Senior Producer, Creative Industries and Programming is responsible for supporting the Head of Programming in the development, management, delivery and presentation of Geelong Arts Centre’s curated presenter programs including but not limited to the following programs:

  • Creative Engine – supporting the creation and development of new work and a pathway to professional practice for local creatives through professional development opportunities, grants, residencies, workshops and networking. Supporting the Head of Programming in the commissioning of new works.
  • Rewire – a new program celebrating new works, contemporary Australian voices, new mediums, immersive and experimental works.
  • Music –creating a music program that incorporates a range of large-scale commercial events through to small local gigs for contemporary and classical music.
  • Special Events including Melbourne Fringe, White Night, Geelong Design Week etc.

The incumbent will also provide input to the creative strategy that underpins the activation of the Centre’s spaces, including utilising digital platforms, to promote a thriving Creative Industries sector. As a member of the programming team, the Senior Producer collaborates

with a wide range of stakeholders to plan and deliver scheduled programs, develop potential projects and foster innovative industry and artistic partnerships. The incumbent provide input for the future programming initiatives in line with audience development strategies and best practice models, and is self-sufficient in their ability to manage their projects from inception to delivery.

1. People and teams

  • Be an active and supportive member of the team, working collaboratively and with a level of autonomy in self- managing programs.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to the project staff, casuals and volunteers as required.
  • Collaborate closely with other teams to safely deliver cost effective compliant, and successful programming and events and contribute to a positive culture.
  • Clear, concise and well organised communications with all relevant internal stakeholders in order to deliver well managed events.

 2. Program Planning

  • Research, review and recommend artistic product to the Head of Programming and provide input for future programming initiatives in line with audience development strategies and best practice models.
  • Develop detailed program delivery planning with well-articulated production schedules, timeline and budget for new and existing programs. Attention to detail in planning and communication is vital.
  • Evaluate existing product and programs as well source and/or create new programming initiatives in-line with Programming Strategy and Centre’s Strategic Plan.
  • Identify and develop collaboration and partnership opportunities locally, state-wide and nationally.
  • Proactively work with individuals and groups within the arts and community sectors to develop and deliver projects which support local artists and promote a thriving Creative Industries sector in Geelong.

3. Management and Implementation

  • Proactively project-manage and produce programs including the negotiation of contracts, confirmation of performance dates and liaison with companies and artists.
  • Assist the marketing team in the development of marketing strategies for programs and artistic concepts for marketing campaigns and provide marketing in a timely and proactive manner.
  • Liaise and effectively communicate with internal stakeholders, including teams in Presenter Services, Technical Operations, Box Office and Marketing, ensuring appropriate systems, processes and clear lines of communication.
  • Ensure the safe, cost effective, compliant and successful delivery of events through effective and management and collaboration.
  • Through and timely administration for end-to-end project management and delivery.

4. Funding and stakeholder management

  • Prepare funding applications, prepare acquittals and provide accurate and timely reports to the Head of Programming and CEO, funding bodies and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist with the implementation of sponsor contracts as required.
  • Develop and foster cooperative and productive relationships with the broader community of Geelong, including artists, arts and cultural organisations, funding agencies, community organisations as well as the wider arts community.
  • Undertake program research and evaluation activities, setting benchmarks and analysing performance of programs.
  • Proactive and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

5. Corporate support

  • Develop, monitor and report on budget performance for assigned programs.
  • Assist in the setting of ticket prices and projection of audience attendances.
  • Provide invoicing data to the Finance team in a timely manner.
  • Provide input to the executive and Trust reporting, including providing detailed reports and undertaking administrative support.

6. Accountability and extent of authority

  • Ensure the safe, cost effective, compliant and successful delivery of events through close collaboration with other teams.
  • The delivery of artistic programming according to the Centre’s artistic policy and the approved annual plan within approved budgets
  • Maintaining and growing program attendances in line with centre-wide planning
  • The financial delegation for this role is outlined in the Financial Code of Practice – Delegations of Authority as approved by the GAC Trust.

Selection Criteria

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Five years’ experience in event management/arts administration/ producing.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individual artists and creatives, as well as developing and producing new work.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with independent and/or major arts organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to source, recommend, analyse and balance artistic product that is relevant, creative and challenging for audiences.
  • Proven track record in end-to-end project management delivery of programs and events, including attention to detail, contract negotiation and management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the performing arts across a range of art forms, including future directions and best practice models.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully nurturing relationships with artists and creatives.
  • Current knowledge of arts industry funding relevant to the Centre’s programs and experience in the development of successful applications.

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Experience leading and managing staff, students or volunteers
  • Experience in artist lead initiatives.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Developing artist and creatives professional development programs and opportunities

Special requirements

  • A component of evening and weekend work will be required as part of the normal hours of duty for this position.
  • This role is based predominantly onsite in Geelong. Flexible working hours and an element of working from home will be considered as part of our Flexible Working Policy
  • Geelong Arts Centre requires that the incumbent for the position of all roles must undergo pre-employment identity checks and both National and International Police Checks (if spent more than 2 years overseas). Any unspent convictions must be disclosed prior to appointment, or the offer of employment may be revoked. Ongoing currency relating to police checks must be maintained for the duration of employment.

The following checks, licenses and certificates are required for this role:

  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Current and valid, or willingness to obtain, Working with Children Check (Employee).

The employee must provide documentary evidence that they hold current certifications prior to commencing employment with Geelong Arts Centre.  The employee must maintain currency of these checks, licences and certificates for the duration of their employment with Geelong Arts Centre.
