Hutchison Ports Australia (HPA) is a part of Hutchison Port Holdings, the world's leading port investor, developer and operator, which boasts a network comprising of 48 ports, spanning 25 countries throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Americas and Australasia.

We are seeking a driven and motivated HR professional to support our Sydney terminal Corporate and Operations teams. 

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of  HR strategies, programs and processes in order to effectively manage the Sydney Corporate and EBA workforce whilst meeting the needs of internal customers in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports to Corporate Head Office in Hong Kong using payroll and workforce data.
  • Managing the cost and effectiveness of the people in the business and enabling line managers and leaders to engage and align our people in the most effective manner.
  • Lead Talent Management and attraction programs to attract and retain top talent.
  • Support the business with Operational and Corporate Recruitment as required. 
  • Provide HR advice to the business unit managers and ensure it links is in with the strategic direction of the business.
  • Ensure Front line leaders are provided with a framework and supporting tools in order to build and develop their skills and capabilities to enable them to become more effective leaders.
  • Manage IR and ER issues relating to business unit by providing expert advice, guidance and counsel to business unit managers.
  • Provide EBA interpretation advice to managers and provide support to managers to manage areas of non-compliance.
  • Provide advice and support to front line leaders in regards to informal and formal performance management processes, including performance improvement plans where appropriate.
  • Coordinate training requirements to meet business goals and objectives.
  • Provision of operational HR reports and documentation as required

Skills and experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in HR / IR at a senior level, with a specific focus on operational HR support and delivery.
  • Bachelor Degree in HR or related business discipline.
  • EA and award interpretation skills plus a strong understanding of workplace legislation.
  • Advanced analytical and reporting skills.  
  • Extensive experience dealing and negotiating with unions
  • Ability to coach, guide and mentor front line leaders.
  • Ability to manage performance through informal and formal processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce high level written reports and documentation as required.
