The City of Burnside is one of Adelaide's most attractive and historic residential areas and is well known for its tree lined streets, period architecture and plentiful reserves and gardens within a 30 km² area. Located in the South Eastern corner of Adelaide and just 10 minutes from the Central Business District, the City of Burnside covers 28 suburbs and has a residential population of over 45,000 people.

We are seeking an experienced Development Officer Planning who will utilise their urban planning skills to provide professional advice to developers, designers and the community on applications submitted under the Development Act 1993 and Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016. The position is responsible for undertaking development assessments, site inspections, contributing to process and system development, along with providing quality customer service and participation as duty planner. 

Tertiary qualifications in urban planning or an associated discipline, and satisfaction of the requirements of the Planning Institute of Australia are essential. Previous experience in a similar role within local government and demonstrated technical knowledge is highly desirable. 

Well-developed written and verbal communication skills are a must, with the ability to explain sometimes technical and complex information to a range of internal and external stakeholders in a clear and easily understood manner.  You must be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and have strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. We are looking for someone who has a positive can-do attitude, show initiative and work as part of a team.

The successful candidate will have a current SA Drivers Licence and undertake a National Police Check as part of the on-boarding process. 

This position is offered on a permanent full-time basis, classified at Level 4/5 (based on skills/experience) under the City of Burnside Administration Employees Enterprise Agreement 2023.
