The Role

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Geochemist who has a passion for problem-solving, continued career development, and mentoring junior staff.  SRK will provide an environment that will allow you to innovate and develop your ideas. 

You will join a highly respected team of environmental geochemists, and you will be supported by engineers and scientists from a broad variety of disciplines including mine waste and tailings engineering, mining, geology, geotechnical, hydrogeology, environment and mine closure.   
This position will either be based in our Perth or Brisbane office. 

This exciting role will include the following duties:

  • Baseline geochemical characterisation studies to support environmental approvals, operational support, and rehabilitation and closure studies.
  • Design and implementation of geochemical characterisation studies (soil, mine wastes, and ore) in the field and laboratory
  • Groundwater and surface water quality assessments, and other environmental investigations
  • Data management and application of statistical tools
  • Using GIS to produce maps and report figures
  • Geochemical modelling to support data interpretation and predict geochemical outcomes
  • Condensing technical data into fit for purpose reports and presentations.
  • Preparation of proposals in response to client needs and other business development activities
  • Project management and liaison with SRK clients

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology, Geochemistry, Environmental Science or engineering discipline with related experience (e.g. Civil or Chemical Engineering)
  • Professional experience (8+ years) in geochemical characterisation of mine wastes, mineral waste management and water quality assessments, with previous consulting experience preferred
  • Relevant Masters or PhD highly regarded
  • Field work experience including drilling supervision and geological logging, test pit logging and sampling (soils, water, geological samples)
  • Experience in the design and implementation of field and laboratory investigation to support geochemical assessments
  • Experience managing static and kinetic geochemical laboratory programs, and processing and interpreting laboratory data
  • Developed practical mineral waste management plans and management solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment 
  • Language fluency in English including the ability to prepare high quality technical reports.
  • Australian Resident or existing Working Visa preferred
  • Willingness to travel for project work (domestic/international and possibly to remote locations)

Additional desirable experience includes:

  • Geochemical modelling (e.g. PHREEQC, Geochemists Workbench) 
  • Experience of the management of large datasets, including data within geological databases and mining block models
  • Previous experience of geological 3D modelling software (Leapfrog, Vulcan) or dynamic probabilistic software (GoldSim) 
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS
  • Relevant professional registrations or memberships
