Reporting to the Hatchery Manager, we are currently seeking for an experienced Assistant Hatchery Manager to join our team based at our Greystanes site. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing policies and practices for operation of hatchery, ensuring attainment of goals and profitable operation. Responsible for production, safety, quality, and process improvement

The position involves being rostered for on call alarm function, the incumbent must be willing to reside at company provided site accommodation once probation has been successfully completed.

Reporting to the Hatchery Manager, this role will see you responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Manage and coordinate hatchery activities such as, egg pick-up and deliveries, care, incubation and hatching, grading, vaccination, and preparation and transportation of chicks
  • Oversee Quality Assurance/Quality Control program
  • Manage and maintain weekly hatch schedules providing proper number of birds to processing plant
  • Direct supervision of workers
  • Monitor and manage facility equipment and repairs, addressing maintenance issues.
  • Keep a current knowledge of industry trends and information regarding hatchery equipment and operations
  • Manage animal welfare program
  • Oversee hatchery sanitation
  • Manage chick care, maintenance, packing and transfer activities
  • Comply with all company policies, animal welfare guideline
  • Comply with safety and company’s guidelines on business ethics.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, experience, and qualifications:

  • Previous hatchery management experience
  • A formal qualification in animal or poultry science is desirable but not essential.
  • Extensive maintenance knowledge (e.g. electrical, mechanical, PLC operations).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and motivate people.
