We currently have a fantastic permanent full-time opportunity for a Business Owner - Promotions to join our Buying team. The Business Owner - Promotions will help reshape the future of promotional performance measurement in Retail, in collaboration with a cross-functional team across Buying, Pricing & Customer Value, WooliesX and Wiq. 

This role will be the opportunity to develop your senior stakeholder engagement skills, requiring regular engagement with Executives & Senior Buying leadership. This is a great opportunity to position yourself as a business & thought leader and to develop core senior leadership skills that are crucial to progressing into more senior roles in Buying.

With joint responsibility for a multi-million dollar annual benefits target, this is an important role in ensuring that the Promotional program & measurement tools resonate with team, customers & suppliers, as part of the broader Pricing & Customer value strategy and drives improved traffic, engagement and customer NPS.

This role is based in Sydney and is offering hybrid work arrangements.

About the Opportunity


Reporting to the Head of Customer & Member Promotions,  you will lead a cross functional squad of direct and indirect team members, in partnership with a dedicated Product Manager. You will manage a team of approximately 5+ individuals, across a broad range of roles, including promotions analysts, data engineers & data scientists, from both Woolworths & WiQ. 


Key Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Co-own a multi-million dollar annual promotions benefits target, working in partnership with Buying teams to deliver a promotional program that resonates with customer & suppliers and delivers an improved ROI and reduces wasteful promo spend
  • Deliver value creation across the promotions portfolio, in strong collaboration with Buying teams and across all levels of leadership, through the development & deployment of strong, customer first promotional strategies for the entire supermarket (with a particular focus on Fresh)
  • Drive business buy-in & cut-through, to enable the adoption of fit for purpose solutions, development of category specific promotional playbooks & strategies and value creation roadmaps to deliver annual promo improvement benefits targets
  • Collaborate across other pricing and merchandising functions to develop and implement promotion strategies cascaded from leadership, including scoping and leading enhancements to the promotional toolkit to keep up with the evolving needs of the business and retail landscape
  • Develop & own the business requirements & enhancement roadmap for the PET tools and deliver on objectives and key results through strong stakeholder engagement and change management
  • Support the implementation of tailored promotional displays in store, in line with our ambition to increasingly curate range and space to the local community
  • Own the program and initiative level reporting for the Next Gen Promotions team, including regular trade and P&L reporting, as well as initiative level post implementation reviews

Key skills, attributes and desirable experience includes: 

  • Experienced strategy / business transformation professional, with previous product ownership experience advantageous 
  • Financial & commercial acumen and ability to analyse information, identify trends and prioritise
  • Fast-paced, effective decision making and highly organised
  • Ability to think strategically and shape the vision and strategic deliverables for your area
  • Exceptional leadership skills and experience in developing high performing teams
