The Opportunity 


The Category Development team is responsible for supporting all of our customer-focused plans and range reviews with analytics, tools and insights. Our long term goal is to deliver a tailored range for every community in Australia. 


Our team sets the direction for a category in line with the organisational strategy - planning, organising and controlling resources to deliver business results. We partner with stakeholders across the business to deliver the right products at the right time and at the right price for our customers.

 
We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Manager with strong experience in either Analytics, Product Management and/or Management Consulting to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving and owning our suite of analytical tools and capabilities so that we can lead the market in tailoring our range, while leading the delivery of our ranging strategy and custodianship of ranging outcomes for Woolworths Supermarkets and Metro. You will be a key decision-maker in determining how we enhance ranging capabilities for the Woolworths Group and help shape our approach to world class Category Management.

About the Role

With thought leadership and domain expertise for our ranging capabilities, you will foster and maintain key relationships across the business to ensure we are building capabilities that are scalable and sustainable. With joint responsibility for a multi-million dollar annual benefits & customer NPS target, this role will lead the delivery with team members across Range & Category Development.

You will provide strategic direction across Commercial by demonstrating exceptional leadership skills to empower our teams to do their best work every day, delivering on value to the customer and outcomes for the business. 


Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Leading a large team of managers, leads and analysts to deliver the best possible range to our customers
  • Bringing strategic thinking to Woolworths processes within Commercial; setting the strategy based on customer and commercial acumen
  • Solving complex problems at a senior manager level using data analytics and a structured problem-solving approach
  • Creating presentations and communicating outcomes to senior stakeholders and influencing strategic outcomes
  • Engaging stakeholders to believing in & wanting to deliver enhanced ways of working to continuously add value
  • Practicing product ownership across the suite of ranging tools and capabilities
  • Partnering with relevant stakeholders to shape how we deploy world-class capabilities
  • Creating processes and designing tools that improve our efficiency
  • Continuously developing the skills and capability of the Category Development Team

About you 

As Senior Manager - Ranging, you will help determine the strategic vision and direction for our ranging products and building capability within category management, ensuring that the product strategy aligns with our business strategy. In doing so, you will bring to the role a demonstrated experience managing teams, developing careers and building top talent in a large corporate environment.

You will have strong experience in data analysis and storytelling, with exceptional ability in being a translator between business teams and analytics teams. You will have strong experience with a leading retailer, consumer goods manufacturer, and/or management consulting firm.


Additional desirable skills and experience include: 

  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple streams of work with a focus on business results and value over completing tasks
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to convey concepts to technical and non-technical people in a clear and unambiguous manner
  • Clear and high calibre presentation of information (verbal and written) for our stakeholders
  • Ability to simplify the complex, and break down problems in a structured manner.
  • Taking the initiative on large-scale programs with meaningful presence and impact, demonstrating thought leadership to solve complex problems and build on opportunities
  • Experience in developing and implementing data-driven strategies and roadmaps in driving change and innovation, working with stakeholders and 3rd party partners in a large corporate environment
  • The ability to influence teams to build better products with a constant dedication to understand, question, and improve the experiences for our customers
  • An obsession for customers with a passion to solve problems in ways our customers will love.
  • Ability to develop the right operating framework and cross-functional squad approach across the organisation to land meaningful change in stores for our customers
  • Being self-sufficient in the delivery of high quality work that is aligned to stakeholder expectations and of standards expected of a Senior Manager role
  • Translation of high-level objectives into actions and workstreams independently, including management of stakeholder and team engagement throughout
  • Proven record of leading, building and developing high performing teams across multiple levels
  • Bachelors/Masters Degree in Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Commerce, Data Science, Computer Science, or Engineering - Expected
  • Knowledge of existing ranging capabilities in the retail sector - an advantage
